8 motorcycle service products necessary before the season
Engine oil of the appropriate viscosity grade and quality classification according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Transmission oil if present separately (also clutch gear oil, main gear oil or cardan shaft oil).
Front suspension fluid is changed less frequently than engine oil but is also subject to replacement.
Coolant in the cooling system is most often replaced in the autumn, but you can also change the fluid before the season, depending on when you service the motorcycle – if liquid cooling is present.
The vast majority of motorcycles have a rear-wheel drive with a drive chain, which must be lubricated with the right grease to reduce friction and protect against corrosion. Before lubricating the chain, it must be cleaned, for which we use Chain Cleaner and a brush. Silkolene chain lubricants contain solvents, allowing the lubricant to penetrate well into the bushings and lubricate the chain pins effectively. After application, we must wait for the solvent to evaporate.
A leach-resistant grease must protect wheel bearings, frame heads, rear control arms and various mechanisms. Silkolene Pro RG2 is a multifunctional synthetic grease with very high heat and water resistance.
To protect painted surfaces, FUCHS recommends Silkolene Pro-Prep, a high-quality, hard surface protectant. This product restores color to plastic parts and painted surfaces, which consequently makes it easier to wash coated parts later. In addition, it inhibits the adhesion of dirt (contains silicone, leaves a protective layer), which is very often used by motocross riders who apply Silkolene Pro-Prep to fenders.
Brake fluids are very often forgotten about, yet they have a key impact on safety. Product selection is not complicated, as there are only a few brake fluid classifiers. What is important is precision when replacing and proper venting of the system.
